Well my mother has cancer and she said when she dies, she wants to be cremated. You can ask the tattoo artist to add ashes into the ink when you get one done. I want to get a tattoo in honor of my mother with her ashes in the ink, and this helped me with prices and plenty information I needed money wise.

I completely agree with what was said in this article..It is tru that you shouldnt worry to much about price considering you are going to have this on your body for the rest of your life, but i also think that you should look around and find the next person for a good price because i know ive been looking at some places and what they charge is outrageous...

i have 16 tatts as of today. Ive been going to the same place for the last 8 or 9 years. Im a tipper. So i feel like the artist shouldnt have to ask for much. But some people become greedy over the years. So im looking into other shops. This was a great eye opening article.

The best thing you can do to get cheaper tattoos is actually getting along well with your artist. Chances are that if you are working on a big piece, you guys will become sorta buddies. Also, an artist might actually discount you on a bigger piece, because they know you will have to come back and finish it someday. If your tattoo artist is really an 'artist' (not a guy that can only tattoo a crappy plain black Kanji), he will also appreciate if you let him freehand a design on you. I had the experience of a $100/hr artist charging me $50/hr because he was happy to be able to go freestyle on me.
Broke ? Really want a tatoo or finish a big piece ? Well you can always ask the artist/owner of the shop if they need help with anything. I worked for tattoos before, it's tight.

  good info

Hi,

I really liked your article, short but sweet, good information. Especially about the difference between colour and black/grey, and the position on your body.

My latest tatt took a bit over an hour to do, and cost AUD$160, so your estimate is pretty accurate for Aussie prices.

So the article that I just read said to go to someone you trust, but what if its your first time. I'm so lost on where to go I have had people tell me were to go, but I'm so unsure and I really want to get the tattoo of the rosary bead on my left ankle like 'nicole richie' in black and white. I want a price and a location before I go somewhere and they totally f it up.Later on I want to get the spider and the om Mani Padme Hum on my right inner hip (in color) ao I would like a price on that too if anyone can help me out here I'd appreciate it. Much thanx. - sarah,FL

  the cost
mikey - U-K-Hertfordshire   (Tuesday, May 9, 2006)

I just had my first tattoo and it cost 90 pounds (150 dollars approx) It took two and a half hours in three colours - black white and grey - and every one who has seen it is impressed. It was an oroborus (snake eating its own tail) going right around my lower forearm.

marian - england   (Sunday, March 26, 2006)

In England the going rate is around £50 - £60 per hour, my tatooist draws your designs and alters them as you want all included in the price and doesn't charge separately for this.
